CFL salaries aren’t in the same ballpark as the NFL, but that doesn’t mean players can’t make a pretty penny.

The 2023 CFL season is about to get underway, as players get set to compete for the right to fight for the Grey Cup.

These football players in Canada aren’t getting paid millions of dollars as they do in the NFL. In fact, a majority of the league isn’t bringing in half a million. However, the top CFLers make six figures annually, with some of the top contracts getting up to over $400,000 a year.

What is the average salary for a CFL player?

The average salary for CFL players isn’t exactly known.

Unlike the NFL, the league does not make teams publicize their player salaries. With that said, it is estimated that players make between $60,000 and $100,000.

The minimum salary for any player is $70,000. This is a recent bump out thanks to a new CBA between the league and the players. Previously, there was a difference in the minimum salary for National (Canadian), American and Global players.

Highest-paid CFL players salaries in 2023

Those at the top of the CFL’s highest-paid player’s list shouldn’t surprise many. The first seven spots on the list belong to quarterbacks, arguably the most important position in the game.

Once again, Winnipeg QB Zach Collaros owns the highest salary in the league. He is the only player in the league guaranteed to make at least $600,000.

“Hard money” is a term used to describe the amount of money guaranteed for a player, which includes salary, signing bonus, housing money, workout bonuses, travel allowances, off-season roster bonuses and report-and-pass bonuses.

Players have a “maximum value” in their contracts that take into consideration the rest of the earnings that could be made through incentives.
