Sofia Vergara reveals the real reason behind shock split from husband Joe Manganiello

As one of Hollywood’s most beautiful – and well-paid – women, Sofia Vergara sparked widespread speculation when she unexpectedly announced her seven-year marriage had come to an end last summer.

Now the actress has spoken frankly about the reason she split from actor Joe Manganiello, revealing he was set on having children while she, at 51, could not face being an older mum.

The Colombia-born star, right – who is currently getting rave reviews for playing a ruthless drug cartel boss in the latest Netflix hit Griselda – said: ‘Joe was four years younger than me and he’d never had kids.

‘He decided he wanted kids and I didn’t want them. It was like, “Imagine, when this child would be ten years old, I’d be 60-something. That’s a grandma!”

‘I know the sacrifices you need to make to be a good mother. You have to be present. And my career is important to me. I cannot disappear. A lot of people rely on me.’

Ms Vergara, right, who had a net worth of some $43m (€40m) at the peak of her fame in the hit sitcom Modern Family, said she is ready to have a baby around – just not one of her own.

She has a 32-year-old son from her first marriage and is looking forward to becoming a grandmother one day – since it wouldn’t be a full-time job.

She said: ‘I’m ready to play with my grandson and then, when I’m done, it’s, “Okay, take it, it’s yours!”‘
