gujarat tycoon donates rs 200 crore fortune for monkhood
A prominent businessman from Gujarat has sparked widespread intrigue with his decision to embrace a life of renunciation, alongside his wife, through a grand gesture of philanthropy. Bhavesh Bhai Bhandari, hailing from Sabarkantha district, has chosen to part ways with the opulence of material existence by donating assets worth a staggering Rs 200 crores, a decision that has left many pondering the motivations behind such a bold move.
According to the Navbharattimes report, Bhandari’s transition to monkhood marks a departure from his longstanding association with the construction business, which had tethered him to a life of affluence in both Sabarkantha and Ahmedabad. The Bhandari family’s deep-rooted ties to the Jain community, known for its reverence for asceticism and devotion, likely influenced Bhavesh Bhai’s contemplation of a more spiritually-oriented lifestyle.

This monumental decision mirrors a familial trend, as Bhandari’s children had already embarked on their own journeys towards monkhood. In 2022, his teenage son and daughter embraced a life of renunciation, inspiring their parents to follow suit. This familial commitment to spiritual exploration underscores the profound impact of generational influences and shared values within the Bhandari household.
The Bhandari couple’s vow to relinquish all material possessions, including modern conveniences like fans, air conditioners, and mobile phones, serves as a symbolic renunciation of worldly attachments. Their choice to divest themselves of such comforts reflects a deeper aspiration for spiritual fulfillment and detachment from the trappings of materialism.
The report added that the grand procession held in Himmatnagar, where Bhavesh Bhai ceremoniously bestowed his substantial wealth to further his spiritual journey, epitomises the gravity of his decision. Accompanied by 35 others, the Bhandari couple pledged to lead a disciplined life guided by principles of renunciation and self-denial.
