A man is critically ill in hospital on Thursday night after he was attacked with a machete in a Dublin park.
The victim, who is in his 20s, received multiple wounds to his arms and body in the attack in Clondalkin on Thursday morning.
Gardaí said the wounds were lacerations – and sources have confirmed to the Irish Mirror that officers suspect he was attacked with a machete-like weapon.
Officers suspect the victim, who is from Dublin, was attacked when he arranged to meet a man in St. Cuthbert’s Park in Clondalkin on Thursday morning.
The stabbing happened at around 11am and it’s understood the victim was targeted by a lone attacker. He was rushed to Tallaght Hospital after the attack – where his condition was described as serious, but stable.
Gardaí in Ballyfermot are investigating and have appealed for witnesses to come forward.
A spokesman said: “Shortly after 11 am, Gardaí and emergency services responded to an incident at St. Cuthbert’s Park, where a male in his 20s had been seriously assaulted.
“The victim sustained multiple lacerations during the incident and was subsequently transported by ambulance to Tallaght Hospital for treatment. His condition is understood to be serious but stable.
“The scene is currently preserved for technical examination, and an incident room has been established at Ballyfermot Garda Station.
“The investigation is being led by a Garda Senior Investigating Officer (SIO). At present, no arrests have been made.
“Gardaí are appealing to anyone who witnessed the assault to come forward. Additionally, individuals with mobile phone, CCTV, or dash cam recordings from the area at the time are encouraged to provide this footage to investigating Gardaí.”
