Currently, it’s the rainy season.

Even in the Klang Valley, rain falls at any time.

Imagine the situation in the east coast and in Johor.

Flood conditions are worsening in some places.

Flood mitigation projects should have been underway long ago.

Previously, the Environment Minister mentioned an amount of RM50 billion for a 10-year project.

But when the government changed, the proposal disappeared.

After that, there was a commotion over who gets what and why it was not tendered transparently.

When the ‘Tuk Seri’ PMX took office, one of the first things announced was the cancellation of a RM7 billion flood mitigation project supposedly awarded through direct negotiation.

Some questioned ‘what’ was being cancelled when the acceptance letter had not even been issued yet.

In my opinion, do it as best as possible in terms of governance and procedures.

Regardless, it should be done in the best way possible to ensure it adheres to principles of transparency and established regulations.

What’s crucial is that flood mitigation projects must be implemented as soon as possible.

Projects like this should be a priority.

The purported ‘saved’ RM7 billion due to improper procedures will become a significant issue later on.

Floods claim lives and damage property.

The cost is more than just in ringgit and sen.
