Helldivers 2 Rolls Back PC Update

  • Helldivers 2 faces performance issues and has had a rocky launch, with major problems at release casting a shadow over the title.
  • The recent PC update for the game is being rolled back due to significant degradation in performance, but the fix for mission rewards will still remain.
  • Despite technical setbacks, Helldivers 2 has received a warm reception from the community and surpassed God of War in terms of concurrent Steam players.

Developer Arrowhead Game Studios has announced that the recent PC update for Helldivers 2 is being rolled back due to performance issues. The sci-fi shooter just released last week and, so far, has already experienced its share of ups and downs. While hitting some significant positive milestones, Helldivers 2 has also had a somewhat rocky launch.

Despite being highly anticipated by many gamers, Helldivers 2 had some major problems at release that cast a shadow over the title. While Arrowhead has continued to communicate with fans and roll out patches to address issues, the game appears to still be a work in progress. Now, a new problem has cropped up, forcing the developer to pull back one of its updates.

Players of Helldivers 2 are creating a list of best practices and etiquette to help teammates new and old do well in the team play-focused game.

On the official Helldivers 2 Discord server, the development team announced that the recent update for the PC version of the game is being rolled back “due to some users experiencing significant degradation in performance.” The patch in question was a Helldivers 2 PC update to address bugs and other problems which was applied just yesterday. Among other things, this patch was meant to fix issues with players struggling to log in and bugs blocking mission progression and rewards. Regrettably, the patch actually made things worse.

Helldivers 2 Dev Rolls Back PC Patch but Keeps the Mission Reward Fix

Arrowhead didn’t expand on what issues the patch was causing, but they were clearly serious if the developer chose to roll it back so quickly. Fortunately for fans, the announcement also stated that this roll back will not be eliminating the fix for mission rewards that was included. So, login issues and other bugs may persist for a while longer but, at least, players will be able to complete missions and get their rewards for them.

While at least one issue has been resolved on the PC, this news is likely to disappoint many fans. Many gamers have already been struggling to fix the Helldivers 2 server connection error that has been plaguing the title for a week. Learning that they’ll be forced to continue using workarounds to the problem for the foreseeable future will probably be a source of frustration.

It’s worth noting that, despite these setbacks, Arrowhead’s new game has still received a warm reception from the community. Within a week of launch, Helldivers 2 surpassed God of War with more concurrent Steam players. The fact that it’s doing so well in spite of the technical issues speaks to the quality of the game. Fans can only hope bug fixes will continue, and the game will get even better.
