Allentown Central Catholic junior Braheem Battles is headed to the Big Ten Conference.
Battles, a junior two-way lineman, announced his pledge to the University of Maryland on Tuesday. He also had a scholarship offer from Temple.
The Viking, who is listed at 6-foot-2, 320 pounds, was an Eastern Pennsylvania Conference South Division and lehighvalleylive.com All-Area second-team selection on defense. He had 32.5 tackles and a sack for Central Catholic in 2023.
Central Catholic, which went 9-3 and was the District 11 Class 4A runner-up last fall, has experienced two notable departures this offseason. Wide receivers/defensive backs Jareel Calhoun and DJ Kelly have both left the program. Calhoun is now attending Plainfield (N.J.) High School, and Kelly announced Tuesday he’s attending St. Frances Academy in Maryland.
