Helen caused the crash after her role in Alex's murder was revealed

In one scene guilty sister Helen caused a car crash by yanking on the steering wheel after Theresa realised her role in Alex's murder.

The action played out from inside the vehicle and viewers couldn't help noticing an unbelievable gaffe.

One asked on Twitter: “Why didn’t the airbags go off in the @AudiUK on tonight’s #HollingtonDrive @ITV The car rolls over and the airbags don’t deploy. Hardly very safe if you ask me.”

Another hard-to-please fan wrote: “how many plot holes did they want in one show. o h my god that was the biggest waste of time”

And they added in a second tweet: “AND NO AIR BAGS WHEN THEY LITERALLY FLIPPED THE CAR????”

Dozens more spotted the missing airbags in the scene, while another viewer moaned: “Why are they obsessed with filming the sisters in cars? Half this series was them in cars”

And one more said: “No idea why I watched #HollingtonDrive to the end. I guess I thought it might improve. It didn't – one of the biggest turkeys of 2021. How on earth did it get commissioned? So many things annoyed me: the title, the stupid street, the main characters, the cars, the unlikely affair”

The thriller had promised to keep fans gripped with its tale about two sisters who have their lives torn apart by tragedy when a child goes missing.

The impressive cast included Line of Duty's Anna Maxwell Martin and Laurence Olivier Award nominated actress Rachael Stirling.

In the end it turned out headmistress Helen (Stirling) had killed schoolboy Alex by accident when she slammed his body against a wall in a bid to scare him.

But viewers said the characters were unlikable – and many had given up on the series early on.

Taking to Twitter, one viewer wrote: “Three episodes in, and I still don’t care what happens to any of these characters. Why are they so unlikeable #HollingtonDrive.”

Another viewer tweeted: “#HollingtonDrive This is veering into comedy.”

A third added: “Nearly turned it off twice already, the acting is so bad.”

Meanwhile, a fourth vented: “#HollingtonDrive I’ve stuck with this from the beginning, but really is hard work, I’m waiting it now with the TV remote in my hand…”
