MUMBAI: Captain Shweta Singh, who was given additional charge as the chief flight operations inspector (CFOI) in the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) last month was formally appointed to the post on Wednesday. With this, Capt Singh becomes the first woman to hold the top post in the DGCA’s Flight Standards Directorate (FSD).

“She cleared the interview to the post of CFOI and has now become the first woman to head the department that handles regulatory requirements for airlines and non-scheduled operators,” said a source. “Capt Singh has been part of DGCA team that has successfully handled number of audits conducted by the US aviation regulator and UN’s International Civil Aviation Organisation,” the source added.

Till last month, Captain Singh, was the deputy FOI when she was handed the additional charge as CFOI by the director-general of civil aviation, Vikram Dev Dutt. The move was effected after Captain Vivek Chhabra, the then CFOI was removed from the post in “public interest and on basis of confidential inputs.”
