The NBA is looking into allegations against Thunder guard Josh Giddey as rumors swirl around the third-year pro online, a league spokesman told Chris Mannix of Sports Illustrated on Friday.
The 21-year-old Australia native has been accused of having an improper relationship with an underage girl in myriad posts across social media this week. Giddey declined to comment on the matter during the team’s media availability Friday.
“I understand the question, obviously, but no comment right now,” Giddey told reporters.
Giddey didn’t play college basketball. Instead, he rose through the developmental ranks in Australia, including the NBA Global Academy and the Australian Institute for Sport. The Thunder selected him with the No. 6 pick in the 2021 NBA draft.
Giddey is averaging 12.3 points, 5.7 rebounds and 4.5 assists per game for Oklahoma City (11–4), which sits in second place in the Western Conference standings, just a half game behind the Timberwolves.
The Thunder play host to the 76ers (10–5) at 5 p.m. ET on Saturday.
