Am Samstagnachmittag geht das WM-Strassenrennen der Frauen über die Bühne. Bereits bevor der Startschuss ertönt, wird das Fahrerlager von einer sexistischen Äusserung erschüttert. Patrick Lefevere (66), der Manager vom Team Deceuninck-Quick Step, antwortet auf die Frage, wann bei seinem Team eine Frauen-Abteilung eröffnet wird mit dem Satz: «Ich bin doch nicht das Sozialamt.» Erst wenn es genug starke Frauen gibt, werde er sich mit dieser Thematik auseinandersetzen.

Diese Aussage zog heftige Reaktionen nach sich. «Ich bin froh, dass er kein Interesse am Frauen-Radsport hat. Wir haben nämlich auch kein Interesse an ihm», so äusserte sich die britische Ex-Weltmeisterin Lizzie Deignan (32). TV-Kommentatorin José Been sagte mit einem Augenzwinkern: «Ein reizender Mann.»

Reusser führt die Equipe der Schweiz an

Spätestens um 14:00 Uhr wenn das Rennen los geht, werden die Nebengeräusche verstummen und der Fokus auf das Wesentliche gerichtet: die Leistung der Athletinnen. Von Antwerpen nach Löwen führt das 157 Kilometer lange Rennen. 1047 Höhenmeter und 20 kurze Aufstiege werden für die nötige Würze sorgen.

Für die Schweiz stehen sechs Athletinnen am Start. Angeführt wird das Aufgebot von Marlen Reusser (30), der Zweitplatzierten im WM-Zeitfahren. Ein weiterer bekannter Namen, der für das Schweizer Team am Start stehen wird, ist die Mountainbikerin Sina Frei (24). Die Olympia-Zweite im Cross-Country-Rennen hat die Aufgabe, ihre Teamleaderin zu unterstützen. Die ganz grossen Favoriten kommen aus der Niederlande. (nab)
