Heute erlebt man einen ganz anderen FCZ

Am Ende der Saison 2019/20 war die Mannschaft des FC Zürich in einem desolaten Zustand. Etwas mehr als ein Jahr später ist sie zuverlässig und ausgeglichen stark.

Die Hoppers werden sich am Samstagabend als “Gastgeber” des Zürcher Derbys wehren müssen.

Als Massimo Rizzo nach drei Runden der erst im September begonnenen Saison 2020/21 den nicht mehr tragbaren Ludovic Magnin ablöste, stellte sich der Erfolg augenblicklich ein. Drei Spiele am Stück wurden gewonnen. Aber schon bald tuckerte man wieder im alten Fahrwasser. Im Frühling schauten aus 14 aufeinanderfolgenden Meisterschaftsspielen nur zwei Siege heraus. Präsident Ancillo Canepa hatte Rizzo mit einem Cheftrainer-Vertrag ausgestattet. Dennoch erstaunte es nicht, dass der langjährige Assistent in der neuen Saison nicht als Chef an der Seitenlinie weiterfahren konnte.

Für Klub, Mannschaft und Spieler war die Trennung vermutlich ein Glück. Denn obwohl das Kader im Sommer nicht annähernd so umfassend verstärkt wurde wie beispielsweise das des FC Basel, trat der FCZ ab Ende Juli mit lange nicht erlebter Stärke auf. André Breitenreiter wurde der erste deutsche Trainer des FCZ seit der 30 und mehr Jahre zurückliegenden deutschen Welle (Timo Konietzka, Hannes Bongartz, Herbert Neumann). Der 48-jährige frühere Trainer von Hannover, des Hamburger SV und des VfL Wolfsburg zeigte rasch seine Qualitäten nicht nur mit taktischem Gespür, sondern auch im Umgang mit den Spielern in einem heterogenen Kader.

Ceesay bestes Beispiel für die Steigerung

Zahlreiche Spieler waren unvermittelt ein paar Prozent besser als vorher, ohne dass man dies Breitenreiters Vorgängern zur Last legen müsste. Stürmer Assan Ceesay hatte sich schon unter Rizzo ein wenig gesteigert. Unter Breitenreiter wurde aus dem 27-jährigen Gambier, dem vermeintlichen Fehltransfer, unvermittelt der zuverlässige Goalgetter, als der er immer vorgesehen war. In den zehn Spielen dieser Saison traf Ceesay achtmal, in der ganzen letzten Saison zweimal. Er vergibt derzeit recht viele Chancen, aber er glaubt daran, dass ihm ein Tor oder mehrere Tore gelingen – vielleicht das entscheidende wie zuletzt im Heimspiel gegen Lugano. Just am Samstag im Match gegen GC ist Ceesay gesperrt.

Bei den Grasshoppers erhebt man den Anspruch, schon in wenigen Jahren die Liga wieder im Griff zu haben und Meister zu werden. Die ersten Schritte dazu sind gemacht. Unter Trainer Giorgio Contini verliess sich die Mannschaft zuerst auf eine solide Defensive. Mittlerweile verstehen es die Hoppers auch, einen Gegner, der dies zulässt, zu dominieren. So gesehen, darf man sich auf ein interessantes und offenes Derby freuen.

Die Super-League-Spiele vom Samstag im Überblick:

Young Boys – Lausanne-Sport (erstes Duell der Saison: 6:1). – Samstag, 18.00 Uhr. – SR Fähndrich. – Absenzen: Martins, Touré (beide gesperrt), Zesiger, Nsame, Lustenberger, Faivre, Joël Monteiro und Petignat (alle verletzt); Chafik (gesperrt), Turkes, Geissmann, Tsoungui, Kapo und Sanches (alle verletzt). – Statistik: Lausanne-Sport hat endlich – in der 10. Runde daheim gegen GC – den ersten Sieg in der Meisterschaft eingefahren. So dürfen die Waadtländer mit Recht hoffen, dass sie am Samstag im Wankdorf besser abschneiden, als sie es gegen die Young Boys Ende September beim 1:6 auf der Tuilière taten. Ein Unentschieden wäre der fünfte Punkt, den sie seit ihrem ersten Wiederaufstieg im Sommer 2016 gegen YB holen. 11 von 13 Duellen mit den Bernern gingen verloren, die letzten sieben allesamt.

Grasshoppers – Zürich (1:2). – Samstag, 20.30 Uhr. – SR Jaccottet. – Absenzen: Toti (gesperrt), Abrashi, Morandi und Santos (alle verletzt); Ceesay Kramer, Tosin, Leitner, Khelifi und Buschmann (alle verletzt). – Statistik: Im Zürcher Vergleich scheinen die Vorteile derzeit nicht derart klar beim FCZ zu liegen wie auch schon. Denn die Hoppers schlagen sich nach dem Wiederaufstieg beachtlich gut. Nach zehn Runden ist ihre Bilanz ausgeglichen. Der FCZ ist derweil die dritte Kraft in der Liga. Nach einem Rumpeln mit je zwei Niederlagen und Unentschieden hat sich die Mannschaft von Trainer André Breitenreiter aufgefangen und zweimal am Stück gewonnen. Aus den letzten sechs Zürcher Derbys konnte GC nur zwei Punkte holen.
