Holidaymaker who delivered one-punch attack jailed

A holidaymaker who knocked a man unconscious has been jailed after his probation officer spotted him in a police CCTV appeal.

Reece Brittain, 26, delivered “one big punch” at a bar in Ingoldmells, Lincolnshire, on 15 August.

Lincoln Crown Court heard the victim required surgery after suffering a fractured vertebra in the attack.

Brittain, of Tomkinson Road, Nuneaton, admitted causing grievous bodily harm and was jailed for 15 months.

The court heard Brittain had been drinking at Bibby’s Beach Bar with friends when another man began to fight with the victim.

CCTV showed him watching the fight before then moving towards the victim.

Brittain was recognised in a CCTV appeal

“He walked around and delivered one big punch,” said prosecutor Alex Wolfson.

“It briefly left the victim unconscious.”

CCTV footage from the venue was issued as part of an appeal for information and Brittain was recognised by his probation officer.

During an interview with police, Brittain admitted he had been drunk and said the victim was being a nuisance towards a woman in their group.

Michael Cranmer-Brown, defending Brittain, told the court he accepted the injuries to the victim were grave.

Judge Simon Hirst told Brittain the victim had been left in a painful position that would last for some time.
