Here's Your Best Look Yet At The Facelifted 992.2 Porsche 911

The iconic Porsche 911 is about to get a major facelift, with the new model to be internally known as the 992.2. This is not the first time CarBuzz spy photographers have captured the 992.2 during testing, but this is the first instance where we have seen multiple variants and body styles together at once. These spy shots show the standard 911 Carrera as both a Coupe and a Cabriolet, the Targa, GTS, as well as the Turbo Coupe and Turbo Cabriolet.
Some planned changes will impact every 911, while others will be model specific. The two Turbo cars appear to be wearing more camouflage than the others, hinting that the visual changes to these models will be more extensive. Here’s what we’ve learned from seeing the 992.2 911 undergoing testing.

Heavy Turbo Updates
Based on the heavier camo, we expect some more significant changes to the 911 Turbo and 911 Turbo Cabriolet. The front bumper will likely look different to the current model and the other facelifted 911 variants. It’s unlikely that the bumper in these pictures is production-ready, but it is clearly missing the fog lights present on the existing model and there are far more vertical and horizontal slats in the lower portion.

CONFIRMED: Porsche 911 Hybrid Coming This Summer
Porsche confirms the arrival of the electrified 911 and hints at multiple variants.
Some rumors suggest that Porsche is readying a high-performance hybrid 911 variant to be revealed this summer. This may not be a plug-in hybrid like the Ferrari SF90 or even a more conventional hybrid like the Acura NSX. Instead, Porsche may equip the 911 Turbo with electric turbochargers, which should significantly increase power from the current 572-hp rating (640 hp in the Turbo S). The electric turbos may add weight, and require more space under the trunk.

911 Lineup Changes
The refreshed 911 will boast a redesigned front and rear bumper with vertical air intake slates that deviate from the existing model. Of course, these changes may not be immediately apparent when looking at test mules designed to fool the public. Inside, we know the 911 will lose its analog tachometer, the last non-digital gauge in Porsche’s fight for purity.
Nothing is confirmed, but rumors indicate that the 911 Carrera could move back to a normally aspirated engine, which would be huge news for enthusiasts. Though the 911 got faster when it switched to turbocharging in the 991.2 generation, the boosted engine didn’t sound as good. Porsche noticed similar customer feedback with the 718 Boxster and Cayman, which is why those models went from a turbocharged flat-four to a 4.0-liter naturally aspirated flat-six on the GTS model.
