NZ vs SA, 2nd Test: Dane Piedt inspires New Zealand collapse as spirited South Africa fight back on Day 2

Dane Piedt and Dane Paterson came up with the goods on Day 2 of the 2nd Test as the young and inexperienced South African side took a 31-run first-innings lead after an incredible display of heart and talent in Hamilton. New Zealand lost their last 7 wickets for just 66 runs as the hosts were bundled out for 211 on Tuesday at Seddon Park.

Off-spinner Dane Piet, playing his 10th Test, registered his career-best figures of 5 for 89, as he ran through the New Zealand batting unit with big scalps of Kane Williamson (43), Tom Latham (40), and Will Young (36). | NZ vs SA, 2nd Test Day 2 Highlights  |

It was a huge blow for New Zealand as they lost Kane Williamson, who has been on a century-scoring spree in the ongoing Test series, as he was caught at short-leg by van Tonder. Piedt carried the burden of the inexperienced attack on his shoulders and troubled the New Zealand batters with sharp spin.

On the other hand, pacer Dane Paterson, playing his fourth Test, got 3 wickets,  including that of opener Devon Conway and wicketkeeper Tom Blundell, whose lean patch continued.

Rachin Ravindra, the double centurion from the first Test, was out for 29 as he played one onto his stumps from Tshepo Moreki. The young fast bowler was rewarded for his consistency as he bowled 13 overs, including 4 maidens, and conceded just 32 runs.

Williamson was the top-scorer for New Zealand, who suffered a sensational collapse after reaching 145 for 3. Rachin Ravindra and Will Young, who stitched a 59-run stand for the 4th wicket, were looking set to help New Zealand take another big lead, but they were bundled out for 211.
