Here Are 10 Most Unreliable SUVs Of 2022

Some of the most popular SUVs on the market may not be the best ones out there. They find themselves on the list of the most unreliable SUVs on the planet. Some of the ratings for the next model year are figured out from the previous models because there is no actual owner feedback yet. Still, if the carmaker does not make any significant changes for the new year, the same old problems can be expected, if not guaranteed. Let’s take a look at 10 SUVs that should be avoided until the reliability issues are taken care of.

2016 Hyundai Tucson – 6/100

The Hyundai Tucson looks very promising, but once you put some miles on it, the real traits of the SUV start to show. Past and present owners have reported enough problems for the 2016 Hyundai Tucson to receive a reliability score of 6 out of 100. Looking through some of the complaints lodged, it seems like not much is good about the SUV. Major and minor engine and transmission problems have been logged in, as have issues with the drive systems and some of the electrical parts.

2013 Nissan Pathfinder – 5/100

The Nissan Pathfinder has been an SUV many go to when looking for a comfortable ride, on and off the beaten path. However, many of the model years have some major issues, which have led up to the Consumer Reports reliability rating for the Pathfinder as a low 5 out of 100. Some of the main complaint areas begin with the transmission; major and minor issues have been a problem. Plus, the Pathfinder has issues with minor engine components, all the electrical systems, and, of course, body and exhaust complaints have been reported.

2014 Jeep Cherokee – 5/100

Jeep is one of the most premium names when it comes to vehicles that can travel off-road in any terrain and in all weather conditions. It is common knowledge that they are not the quietest of rides and have some little quirks that Jeep enthusiasts do not mind dealing with. The 2014 Jeep Cherokee is not one of the basic SUVs in the lineup that can be a part of this, but yet it is. Consumer complaints have lowered the total reliability rating all the way down to a 5 out of 100 for the Cherokee. The problems are reported in almost every aspect of the Jeep, including major and minor engine issues and major and minor transmission problems. Not to mention the complaints about the drive system and the electronic parts.

2014 Buick Encore – 5/100

Buick has long been known for its quiet, comfortable ride, which is why many families opt to purchase a Buick car over some others on the market. The Buick Encore is not an SUV that has rave reviews. In fact, most critics have stated that the Buick Encore has slow acceleration on the highways and doesn’t offer much cargo space. These are just minor things, though, nothing that contributed to the 2014 Buick Encore obtaining a reliability rating of 5 out of 100. Those problems are more about the significant issues with the engine, both major and minor problems. To top that off, consumers have also lodged complaints about the cooling system failing and the numerous issues within the electrical components and systems.

2023 Kia Sorento – 5/100

Since the early 2010s, the Kia Sorento has had problems with reliability. The new Sorento is no different, receiving an estimated reliability rating of 5 out of 100 because of the issues seen in previous model years, which Kia has not attempted to fix. The main problems with the 2023 model center in the transmission and drivetrain, but definitely includes major and minor issues within the engine components of the hybrid SUV. To make things worse for Kia, owner satisfaction ratings are low enough to show that there is a big problem that needs to be addressed, or else the SUV will need to be put to rest.

2022 Ford Mustang Mach-E – 4/100

Considering the fact that the Ford Mustang Mach-E was one of the first electric vehicles to rival Tesla, it comes as a surprise to find it on the 10 most unreliable SUVs lists, but here it is, coming in fourth place. The Mach-E is fun to drive and is smooth during acceleration, deceleration, and cornering. Still, like all other new vehicles, it has some reported issues with the in-car electronics. The biggest problem with the 2022 Mach-E is in the minor engine (motor) category, which means it is prone to oil leaks and computer problems, not to mention premature wear of belts and pulleys. These issues give the 2022 Ford Mustang Mach-E a reliability rating of 4 out of 100.

2022 Volvo XC60 – 4/100

The 2022 Volvo XC60 is a compact luxury SUV that is not as agile as some of the other rival vehicles, but it can offer a smooth, comfortable ride when everything is working correctly. That is where the problem comes up, though, which gives the XC60 a low-reliability rating of 4 out of 10. Consumers have reported that some of the main issues are common for all new vehicles with the leading innovative technology onboard. The biggest complaint came from points with the in-car electronic systems and the issues with the engine, both major and minor problems. To top it off, the body hardware was not made to take even the lightest of use, breaking without warning.

2022 Mercedes-Benz GLC – 4/100

The one thing that the 2022 Mercedes-Benz GLC has going for it is the amount of luxury that it offers. If the SUV owner prefers status and comfort, the fact that the GLC received a reliability rating of 4 out of 100 should not be anything to worry about. Overall the engine in the Benz is sound, without having many complaints. The problems lie within the drivetrain and the suspension systems, both of which could cause a severe breakdown or accident. There have also been some issues found within the in-car electronics, but not as many as the ones found in most new SUVs.

2022 Volkswagen Tiguan – 3/100

The 2022 Volkswagen Tiguan is an SUV designed to rival the American versions by offering a European appeal, which it does give to the occupants. The vehicle has some excellent components, but because of the five or six common issues reported to Consumer Reports, Tiguan gets a reliability rating of 3 out of 100. The main issues that owners have listed include problems with the in-car electronics, minor transmission problems, major and minor engine issues, and the failure of engine cooling components.

2022 Volkswagen Taos – 1/100

Taking the honors for the most unreliable SUV in the U.S. is the 2022 Volkswagen Taos. It is also estimated that the new model year will be just as bad, simply because the company has not suggested to anyone that they were planning to make changes to improve on the reasons why Consumer Reports has ranked the reliability of the Taos as a 1 out of 100. The main reasons found for the ranking given by SUV owners begin with major and minor engine problems, issues with all the electrical components, including safety features, major and minor transmission failure, serious fuel system problems, and drivetrain issues that could leave a person stranded on the side of the road.

FAQ

Q: What is the most unreliable SUV on the market?

Volkswagon has the lousy distinction of carrying the top two most unreliable SUVs on the market. The 2022 Taos and the 2022 Ttiguan have reliability ratings given by Consumer Reports as being 1 out of 100 and 3 out of 100, making them both SUVs to avoid at all costs.

Q: What SUV on the market is the most reliable?

The top SUV over the past couple of decades is the Lexus NX Hybrid and the Lexus NX. Both received consumer reliability ratings of 99 out of 100 and 98 out of 100. They are the most luxurious, reliable, and sought-after SUVs on the market.

Q: Which SUV depreciates the most?

The depreciation of an SUV is significant because not many of us hang on to our cars for more than 5 to 10 years, which means that we want to be able to sell them without losing a ton of money. Out of all the SUVs on the market, the Toyota 4Runner depreciates the most, reaching up to 24.6%.

Q: Which SUV is best in an accident?

Even though not many will ever be in a serious accident, there is always a chance, so as a consumer, you want to have the safest SUV on the roads. As of now, the Tesla Model Y has 5 stars all the way across the board from IIHS and NHTSA.
