Shashi Tharoor rapped for ‘unverified allegations’ against Rajeev Chandrasekhar
The Election Commission has warned Congress candidate and sitting MP Shashi Tharoor, asking him “not to make unverified allegations in the future in contravention to the Moral Code of Conduct (MCC)”. The warning came in response to a complaint that was filed by the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) alleging that Tharoor made false statements to defame its candidate and Union Minister Rajeev Chandrasekar.
Tharoor and Chandrasekar will face off from the Thiruvananthapuram Lok Sabha seat in the upcoming national polls.
The NDA complaint alleges that Tharoor, during an interview with a regional news channel, falsely accused Chandrasekhar of offering money to voters and religious leaders to secure votes in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections.
