The 7.1 per cent inflationary increase last year will be adjusted to the WPI at the time of 3.2 per cent, benefitting more than three million Australians.
The move will provide a credit of about $1,200 for someone with an average debt of $26,494.
“When you look at the drivers of inflation, what is keeping inflation up, it has been predicated on what they have done in Canberra,” Mr Littleproud told Sky News Australia.
“Food is up ten per cent, energy up 18 per cent, 25 per cent for gas – they are intertwined and that is keeping mortgage rates higher.”
