Heatwave set to end in most parts of India; yellow alert issued for Kerala: IMD
The current spell of heatwave is about to end in most parts of the country, except few areas in west Rajasthan and Kerala, where a yellow alert has been issued, said Indian Meteorological Department scientist Soma Sen on May 9.
“Heatwave is about to end from the entire country. Only in West Rajasthan & Kerala heatwave alert has been issued. Tomorrow, the heatwave will only be present in West Rajasthan,” said Sen. The scientist also added that though they have issued a yellow alert for west Rajasthan and Kerala, impact is unlikely. “From tomorrow heatwave will end in the country. The alert will remain only for west Rajasthan.”
Sen also said that a strong moisture flow is coming from the Bay of Bengal, which is leading to increase in thunderstorm activity in the country and dip in temperatures in various parts of the country.
“There will be a possibility of cloud-to-ground lightning in these thunderstorms…” the scientist said.
The IMD, in its weather bulletin issued om May 9, also said that thunderstorm along with lightning is expected at certain places over coastal Karnataka in the next three days. It also said that the northwestern part of the country is unlikely to witness any rise in mercury in the next two days. However, the temperatures are likely to dip 2-3 degree Celsius thereafter.
The weather department also said that the country overall is unlikely to see any significant rise in temperatures.
