Former Man City defender Micah Richards has named his three most under appreciated teammates from his time at the club.
Richards was an academy graduate at Man City and made 245 appearances over 10 seasons with the first-team, before leaving the club for Fiorentina and then Aston Villa and eventually retiring in 2019 aged just 31 due to injury issues.
The charismatic former England international is now a highly popular pundit on Sky Sports and BBC and was part of the recent Soccer Aid event that took place at the Etihad Stadium this month.
During preparation for the game, Richards took part in an episode of ‘FIFA and Chill’ with YouTuber’s Poet and Vuj who put some fan questions to him about his career.
When asked about the most underrated player he ever played with, Richards named three but admitted that one name, in particular, stood out more than the others.
“I’d probably say Gareth Barry you know,” he said. “He’s got the record for most Premier League appearances and when he was at City he was always one of them players like [Pablo] Zabaleta, [Vincent] Kompany, Joe Hart, [Sergio] Aguero, [David] Silva… he was the one who knitted it all together.
“He was a baller. Baller. He’s ridiculous. He’s like, in Nandos.. he’s like the perinnaise.
“James Milner, Joleon Lescott and Gareth Barry. Those three are the three most underappreciated.”
Barry made 175 appearances in four seasons at the club, winning the Premier League title and FA Cup before moving on to Everton and finally West Brom where he broke the record for most Premier League appearances of all time.
