HBO Max is coming to Norway in October

HBO Max is coming to Norway in October

The streaming platform HBO Max will be made available in all the Nordic countries, as well as Spain and Andorra, on October 26th. The rest of Europe will have to wait until 2022.

HBO Max is set to replace the current HBO Nordic and seems to boast a wider selection of titles.

The specific details, including content and pricing, will reportedly be revealed later in October. This is what we know so far.

A WarnerMedia extension

The whole WarnerMedia catalog – including HBO films and movies, HBO Max originals, and content from DC Comics, Warner Bros., and Cartoon Network – will be available on the same platform, in addition to content bought by HBO Max.

The streaming platform was released in the US on May 27th, 2020, with the intention of HBO Max being to consolidate movies and series from the many companies under WarnerMedia. This game plan came after the company was acquired by AT&T.

It is worth noting that HBO Max and HBO are two separate companies, both owned by WarnerMedia.

From cinema to online

Controversially, Warner Bros. announced in December of 2020 that all of their movies being shown in American cinemas would also be available on HBO Max immediately.

The decision raised eyebrows among many industry professionals, including actors, directors, and others involved in the industry.

As a result, Warner Bros. recently announced that they would only be releasing some of their movie titles online the same day they premiere in cinemas. For other movies, cinemas will be given 45 days of exclusivity before the films become available on the streaming platform.

It is still unclear whether this will be the case for the Norwegian market as well.
