Two men in critical condition after stabbing

Two men are in a “critical condition” after being stabbed by a gang of masked men in Sheffield, police have said.

A South Yorkshire Police spokesperson said they were called to Cliff Street in Highfield to reports of a stabbing at about 04:20 GMT on Saturday.

The victims, aged 27 and 21, were taken to hospital where they remain “in a critical condition”, the spokesperson added.

Police have asked anyone who can help their investigation to contact them.

Det Insp Richard Armstrong said: “We’re especially keen to hear from any witnesses and drivers, including taxis who may have been passing and have dashcam footage.

“We are in the early stages of the investigation and will continue to work to find those responsible. Any information, no matter how small, could be the missing piece we need.”

A police spokesperson said they believed the men were “approached by a group of unknown, masked men who became aggressive.”

A scene remained in place on Cliff Street, Insp Armstrong added.

He said: “Officers will be on patrol, carrying out inquiries and offering community reassurance. I urge you to speak to them if you have any information or concerns.”
