SHAH ALAM – Former Selangor menteri besar Dr Mohamad Khir Toyo endorses Umno Selangor’s initiative to regain control over 20 local authority council (PBT) member positions from Pakatan Harapan (PH) and to request the entire 373 Chairperson roles of the Village Development and Safety Committees (JPKK) in the state.

He argued that the current allocation does not represent a fair power-sharing between PH and Barisan Nasional (BN) in the Selangor state government.

The former Sungai Panjang state assemblyman challenged the state government’s logic that Umno’s entitlement to merely 20 PBT council member positions is based on winning only two state assembly seats, calling this reasoning flawed.

He contended that BN and Umno significantly aided PH’s majority in urban constituencies during the recent August state election.

“For instance, in DAP-dominated regions, not many Malays traditionally voted for PH. “But this changed with the support of Umno’s election machinery,” he said.

Dr Khir urged all PH component parties, including PKR, Amanah, and DAP, to compromise and fairly allocate council member positions to Umno rather than limiting them to just 20 out of the existing 288 council member seats in Selangor.

He stressed the importance of equitable distribution of council member seats and village head positions, especially after Umno and PH’s collaboration in forming the Unity Government in Selangor, for the state’s stability and service quality.

He also speculated that BN and Umno’s defeat in the recent Selangor state election was partly due to the lack of support from PH supporters, particularly in urban areas.

Therefore, Dr Khir called for PH to focus on power-sharing and fostering positive relations with Umno, aiding BN’s recovery and regaining public trust.

Selangor is home to 12 PBTs, comprising three City Councils (Shah Alam, Petaling Jaya, and Subang Jaya), eight Municipal Councils (Ampang Jaya, Kajang, Klang, Selayang, Sepang, Hulu Selangor, Kuala Selangor, and Kuala Langat), and one District Council (Sabak Bernam).
