Dean Smith’s men secured a brilliant 3-0 win over the Merseysiders in Saturday’s 5.30pm kick-off.
They were able to put a stuttering start to the new Premier League season behind them with victory at Villa Park.
Following that result, Villa now have two wins, a draw and two defeats from their opening five games, handing the high-flying visitors their first defeat of the season. .
So who was the key man for the Villans on Saturday?
John McGinn has been their form man so far with two man-of-the-match awards, as voted for by you, already in his locker, but he was forced to leave the pitch with a head injury in the first-half.
Leon Bailey stole the show in the second-half with a wonderful finish, his second of the campaign, while his corner directly led to Lucas Digne’s own goal.
But he faces serious competition from Tyrone Mings, who was looking for redemption following his mistake against Chelsea. The defender found a measure of redemption by keeping a clean sheet and putting in a strong display at the back.
Axel Tuanzebe, Ezri Konsa the returning Emi Martinez will argue they deserve the same recognition as the centre-back, while Matty Cash scored in a fantastic display operating high up the pitch.
Danny Ings and Douglas Luiz also put themselves in contention with an assist each and will undoubtedly be in the running for the man-of-the-match award.
Jacob Ramsey, who impressed onlookers with his performance against Chelsea, once again made an impact too.
