Haryana Political Crisis: Three Independent MLAs Extend Support To Congress; BJP Denies Losing Majority
Haryana Political Crisis: Three MLAs who were part of the BJP-led ruling NDA alliance as Independent legilators in Haryana announced on Tuesday that they have withdrawn their support to Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini’s government. The three legislators — Sombir Sangwan, Randhir Gollen and Dharampal Gonder — also said that they have decided to extend support to the Congress during the elections.
Speaking on the issue, Praveen Attrey, Media Secretary to CM Saini, said, ” Three independent MLAs extending their support to Congress won’t impact Haryana govt. Today also Haryana govt has majority and is safe. If you see the numbers, govt has the support of 47 MLAs and because of this, the govt is totally safe. If we talk from the legal point of view, no confidence motion can’t be moved against Haryana govt because earlier in the Vidhan Sabha Assembly, under the leadership of Bhupinder Singh Hooda, Congress had moved a no confidence motion which was dismissed so another no confidence motion can’t be brought in for the next 6 months.”
Meanwhile, senior Congress leader and former Haryana CM Bhupinder Singh Hooda said, “Their decision is right the right decision taken at the right time. It is in the interest of the people…There is a wave of Congress. I welcome them.”
The withdrawal of support comes within two months of BJP leader Nayab Singh Saini taking oath as Haryana’s Chief Minister on March 12. He assumed the office of CM after a brief political uncertainity caused by the collapse of the BJP-JJP coalition in Haryana resulted in Manohar Lal Khattar and his entire cabinet stepping down.
The National Democratic Alliance (NDA) government under Saini came to power in Haryana with support from six Independent legislators and Haryana Lokhit Party (HLP) leader Gopal Kanda, the sole member in the Assembly from his party.
With 41 of its own MLAs in the 90-member Haryana Assembly, the support from the Independents and Kanda sent the BJP across the majority mark and placed the government’s strength at 48.
