The fight to save land that once housed the former Red Lion Country Club is not over.
Last year, the York Township Board of Commissioners voted against a rezoning proposal asking that the 58-acre property be changed from a commercial district to a residential high-density district. That vote came after months of vocal protests from York Township and Red Lion residents who were against the rezoning, which would have resulted in the sale of the land to a housing developer.

In July, over 100 community members attended a meeting to voice concerns about how developing this site would harm local wildlife, have a negative impact on traffic and decrease quality of life for residents.
The land, which is owned by the Red Lion Area School District, was listed for $1.6 million. The sale to the housing developer was contingent on the rezoning.
The developer is back with a new plan and now wants to develop an “age restricted community” on the property. This will result in roughly 148 housing units.
To move forward with this plan, the developer must get a special exception to the current zoning laws. The developer will present the plan and request that exception at the next York Township Zoning Hearing Board meeting, which will be held at 6 p.m., Tuesday, Feb. 27 in the Dallastown Middle School Auditorium at 700 New School Land, Dallastown.
Residents have organized to oppose this exception request, and they plan to attend the meeting to voice their concerns.
