HanuMan box office collection day 9: Teja Sajja’s superhero film outperforms Mahesh Babu’s Guntur Kaaram by Rs 11 crore
Teja Sajja starrer HanuMan is unstoppable at the box office. The latest superhero movie, HanuMan, surged past the Rs 100 crore mark, minting Rs 14.25 crore on Saturday alone. The film’s collection grew by almost 40 per cent as it earned Rs 10.05 crore on Friday. The overall box office collection of HanuMan, in India, stands at Rs 114.10 crore.
Directed by Prasanth Varma, the film was released on January 12 and faced competition from Mahesh Babu’s Guntur Kaaram.
HanuMan started its box office journey with a decent start, earning Rs 4.50 crore on the opening day. Eventually, it emerged as a Sankranti winner, courtesy good reviews and positive word of mouth. According to trade analyst Manobala Vijayabalan, the film is now eyeing the Rs 200 crore club.
He also shared that on January 19 Guntur Kaaram sold 1,62,853 tickets with a 34.40% occupancy from 1360 shows, while Hanuman sold 5,57,701 tickets with a 28.66% occupancy from 5900 shows. On Saturday, Guntur Kaaram minted Rs 3.25 crore.
HanuMan also stars Amritha Aiyer, Varalaxmi Sarathkumar, Raj Deepak Shetty and Vijay Rai in pivotal roles. At the pre-release event of HanuMan, megastar Chiranjeevi announced that Rs 5 from each ticket sold would be donated to the construction of Ayodhya’s Ram Mandir.
Prashanth had opened up about the film in an interview with Hindustan Times. He said, “I always wanted to do a superhero film. In fact, I wanted to become a superhero. Since I couldn’t do that I thought, let me make a film. I didn’t want it to be a Marvel or DC-like superhero film but something indigenous and culturally rooted. The first thought that came to mind was Hanuman ji and I wrote the story.”
