Hanoi to provide tap water to all by 2030 with five more waterworks

Hanoi will build five more waterworks by 2030 to add to its three existing ones to ensure all its residents have access to piped water supply.

Vietnam, Vietnam capital, Hanoi, Hanoi tap water, Hanoi running water

Envisaged under changes to water supply plans approved recently by the government, the five will supply more than 800,000 cubic meters of water a day by 2030.

They will also draw water from the Da, Duong and Hong rivers like the existing plants.

The plan, expected to cost VND54 trillion ($2.34 billion) to implement, seeks to reduce the city’s reliance on groundwater.

It targets that by 2030 the use of groundwater will drop to 500,000 cu.m from 630,000 cu.m now.

Residents will then get 130-170 liters per person per day in the downtown area and 110-115 liters in outlying districts.

As of last year only 78 percent of people living on the outskirts had access to the running tap water.
