If you can’t beat them, become them. That’s the stark choice facing Theo James’ Eddie Horniman in the official trailer for Guy Ritchie’s Netflix spin-off, The Gentlemen. Dropping March 7, the eight-episode TV series is set to plunge us deeper into the intricate world of weed-fueled crime first explored in the 2019 film.

A unique take on the Matthew McConaughey-lef flick, The Gentlemen show reimagines the British underworld in a manner only Guy Ritchie could conceive. Inheriting his father’s “sizeable country estate — only to discover it’s part of a cannabis empire”, Theo James’ Eddie finds himself thrust into a high-stakes game, where he encounters a host of unsavoury characters from Britain’s criminal underworld, each vying for a slice of the pie.
“Determined to extricate his family from their clutches, Eddie tries to play the gangsters at their own game. However, as he gets sucked into the world of criminality, he begins to find a taste for it,” reads the official synopsis. The new official trailer for Netflix’s The Gentlemen is packed with Theo James’ raw charm and machismo and is an exciting mix of dark humour, gritty underworld dealings, and aristocratic intrigue.

The Gentlemen trailer opens with a frustrated monologue from James’s Eddie Horniman, who inherits his grand manor “and a shocking secret” after his father’s death that throws his life into chaos. “I didn’t ask for any of this. The title has no practical value,” says James’s Eddie in the trailer. Forced to inherit his father’s cannabis empire, Eddie finds himself sliding into the perilous world of crime, where he encounters Winstone’s cunning criminal, Bobby Glass, and his glamorous yet ruthless daughter, Susie (Kaya Scodelario), along with a menagerie of unsavoury characters.
The trailer also teases Giancarlo Esposito‘s enigmatic Uncle Stan, who offers a rather chilling piece of advice: “People either survive in the jungle, or exist in the zoo.” Now, faced with a ruthless British underworld eyeing his family’s cannabis empire, Eddie Horniman makes a bold choice: “So to stop ourselves being associated with criminals,” he declares in the trailer, “we are going to become criminals.” He joins forces with the cunning Susie Glass (Kaya Scodelario), but navigating a world of sharp-suited gangsters and hidden dangers proves more complex than he anticipated.

As Susie says to Eddie, “I didn’t create this problem. I’m trying to help you deal with it.” Theo James leads an all-star cast including Kaya Scodelari, Daniel Ings, and Giancarlo Esposito in Netflix’s upcoming The Gentlemen. The ensemble cast for the series includes Chanel Cresswell, Michael Vu, Max Beesley, Jasmine Blackborow, Harry Goodwins, Dar Salim, Pearce Quigley, Ruby Sear, and Peter Serafinowicz.
Guy Ritchie helms the first two episodes of The Gentlemen, teaming up with writer Matthew Read and others for the series’ screenplay. Miramax TV’s Marn Davies, Ivan Atkinson, and Marc Helwig join forces with Moonage Pictures’ Will Gould and Frith Tiplady as executive producers, while Hugh Warren serves as series producer. The Gentlemen releases on Netflix on March 7, 2024.
