Hainan's January-September tourism revenues grew 136.9% year-on-year

Asia's Tech News Daily

The province’s total revenue amounted to $16.7 billion

HAIKOU /China/, October 21. /TASS/. Hainan province's total tourism revenue for the first three quarters of this year was 107.14 billion yuan ($16.7 billion), which is 136.9% more than the same period in 2020, according to data published by the provincial statistical office on Thursday.

The corresponding figure was also 51.4% higher than the one recorded in 2019 before the pandemic hit. The number of tourists visiting the province increased by 57.8% year-on-year to 57.59 million people during this period. Compared to 2019, this figure increased by 2.9%.

The Hainan provincial government has set a goal of increasing the island's annual tourist flow to 110 million people by 2025 and total tourism revenue to 180 billion yuan (about $27.8 billion). The government’s primary focus will be on developing auto tourism along the ring road on the island, ecotourism, infrastructure, duty-free stores, medical tourism, as well as improving the infrastructure of major attractions of Hainan.

By 2025, the authorities intend to turn Hainan into an “international center of tourism and consumption. The Chinese island is often referred to as the “Oriental Hawaii” – local nature, tropical forests, a developed network of hotels combined with the beaches and the coastline length of more than 1.9 thousand kilometers attracts visitors from the farthest corners of the world.

During the 13th Five-Year Plan (2016-2020) Hainan welcomed about 352 million Chinese and foreign tourists.
