latest nottingham forest injury news as five out vs west ham with gonzalo montiel update

Gonzalo Montiel of Nottingham Forest

Nottingham Forest are busy preparing for their return to Premier League action this weekend against West Ham.

The Reds host the Hammers at the City Ground with both teams in need of the three points on offer. Forest lost 3-2 to Newcastle United in their previous fixture, while West Ham were beaten 6-0 at home to Arsenal.

The defeat to Newcastle leaves Forest in 16th place in the Premier League table and just two points above the relegation zone. Victory for the Reds would be most welcome with the next two league fixtures afterwards seeing the club face Aston Villa and Liverpool.

Nuno Espirito Santo will be forced to deal with some of his key players on the sidelines through injury. Chris Wood remains unavailable with a hamstring injury and is not expected to return within the next two months.

Gonzalo Montiel is also on the sidelines with a hamstring injury. The World Cup winner is yet to have an exact timeframe for a return but has been ruled out for the game against West Ham at the very least.

“He is not going to be available,” Nuno told reporters on Thursday when asked about Montiel. “He is in treatment so let’s wait and see. I am not sure how long he is going to be out for.

“The squad is basically the same. We have a lot of issues.”

Nuno also confirmed that Ola Aina, Willy Boly and Ibrahim Sangare will not be available to face West Ham. The trio have only recently returned to the UK following their involvement with their respective countries at the Africa Cup of Nations.

Aina started for Nigeria against Ivory Coast, as his country lost 2-1 in the final. Sangare made an appearance as a substitute in the game for Ivory Coast, while Boly was not part of the matchday squad.

Despite the trio returning to Nottingham, Nuno confirmed that none would be available to face West Ham. As a result, a more likely return for Aino, Boly and Sangare may come against Aston Villa next week.

“They are not going to be available for this game. They will return to us and rejoin the group, but they won’t be available for this game,” Nuno said on Thursday.
