Gwyneth Paltrow case development as accuser's daughter tells court of 'emotional abuse'

Gwyneth Paltrow, 50, is being sued by Terry Sanderson over an alleged collision that left him unresponsive at the Deer Valley Resort in Utah in 2016 – which he says left him with broken ribs and brain damage. The civil trial saw Sanderson’s daughter, Jenny Sanderson, testify about her strained relationship with her father, whom she reportedly accused of being “domineering” and also “easily frustrated”.

According to reports, during his cross examination, attorney James Egan questioned whether witness Dr Wendell Gibby was aware of the claims made in Jenny’s deposition.

In her testimony, Jenny claimed Sanderson was “verbally abusive” towards her and her mother, Mirror.co.uk reported.

Jenny also reportedly recounted not having a relationship with her father, who she claimed had always been “frustrated and quick to anger”, for 13 years.

Dr Gibby could not recall all the points brought up in the deposition, but claimed he knew of a Mr Sanderson being “angry” with the man said to be having an affair with his wife, according to reports made by the aforementioned news outlet.

It was alleged that Mr Sanderson had hit the other man, but Dr Gibby pointed out he believed this behaviour was “atypical” of the plaintiff.

Dr Gibby previously told the court Mr Sanderson’s relationship with his family had become more strained after the accident.

He also pointed out how the injuries presented by Mr Sanderson could not “plausibly” have been brought on by him colliding with the actress.

The original lawsuit reportedly claimed $3.1million (£2.5million) in damages which has now changed to a $300,000 (£244,000) claim against Gwyneth.

In response, Gwyneth is seeking $1 (82p) in damages as well as her legal fees to be covered.

The Oscar winner has filed a counterclaim, alleging that Mr Sanderson had hit her and delivered a full “body blow”.

Stephen Owens, representing Paltrow, said she had been “freaked out” when the collision happened.

In his opening remarks, he told the court: “This was not a hit and run. The plaintiff even had a ski expert evaluate it and he said it’s not a hit and run – take that out of your mind.

“Gwyneth was hurt by Mr Sanderson’s negligence… she is upset. Anyone sustaining a blow is upset, she is sore, she never went to a doctor…but it rattled her and it physically hurt her.”

The trial continues.
