Jurgen Klopp could not confirm that Mo Salah or Darwin Nunez would be fit for the Carabao Cup final on Sunday, after being forced to sit out Wednesday night’s clash with Luton.

The Reds host the Hatters in the Premier League on Wednesday and both the Egyptian and the Uruguayan have missed out on the squad.

Salah has been struggling with fatigue after making his return from a hamstring problem last week, while Nunez is not fit after a knock at the weekend.

Neither injury appears to be serious and both forwards could be fit to face Chelsea at Wembley, but Klopp could not be certain.

‘They [Darwin Nunez and Mo Salah] couldn’t have played tonight. Everybody who can play tonight will be there,’ Klopp said ahead of the Luton match.

‘From here we will see who will be back for Sunday [League Cup final against Chelsea], but that is not important at the moment.’

It is a long list of injuries that Klopp is dealing with and some are a lot more serious than Salah’s and Nunez’s.

Diogo Jota, Alisson Becker, Joel Matip, Curtis Jones, Thiago Alcantara and Trent Alexander-Arnold are all set to miss the Carabao Cup final, although Dominik Szoboszlai could return in time.

Liverpool could only draw at Luton earlier in the season, needing a late equaliser from Luis Diaz and Klopp has a lot of respect for Rob Edwards and his team.

‘We are completely different since last time, they did well and we should have scored goals. I have seen plenty of games of Luton’s and the improvement they have made is crazy and deserves a lot of respect,’ he said.

‘Luton started very pragmatic [at the start of the season] and developed football based since then and it’s a really good job what Rob [Edwards] is doing there. Will it be a test for us? Yes.

‘It is about getting in the game and causing problems and winning the game.’
