Travis Kelce
Earlier this month, the Kansas City Chiefs beat the San Francisco 49ers in Super Bowl LVIII to win their second consecutive Super Bowl championship. The weeks following have been full of celebration, but fans might have missed a subtle moment between Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce and NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell immediately following the game.
As the Chiefs celebrated their Super Bowl LVIII victory during the trophy presentation on the field, a hot mic picked up a conversation between Travis Kelce and Roger Goodell where the NFL commissioner acknowledged just how impressive it was that the Chiefs were able to win two consecutive Super Bowl titles.
“Back to back, baby,” Kelce told Goodell according to Marca.com. “That’s another echelon.”
“Back to back is…” Goodell interjected.
“That’s a different tier,” Kelce added.
“It is,” Goodell responded.
The Chiefs are the first team to win the Super Bowl in back-to-back years since the New England Patriots won Super Bowl XXXVIII and Super Bowl XXXIX following the 2002 and 2003 NFL seasons, so they are already in rare company.
However, the team can reach unprecedented territory next year if they win their third consecutive Super Bowl title, something no other team has ever accomplished in NFL history.
