A statement released by Buckingham Palace read: ‘The King was this morning admitted to a London hospital for scheduled treatment. His Majesty would like to thank all those who have sent their good wishes over the past week and is delighted to learn that his diagnosis is having a positive impact on public health awareness.’

The news of the King’s upcoming surgery was announced in a double whammy of royal medical updates, coming only 90 minutes after news of Kate’s procedure was announced on January 17. As she recovers, the 42-year-old princess is not expected to return to royal engagements until after Easter.
In a statement announcing Kate’s surgery, a spokesperson for the palace wrote: ‘The surgery was successful, and it is expected that she will remain in hospital for ten to fourteen days, before returning home to continue her recovery.’
