Green machine: Fulham eco home retrofitted with Passivhaus technology on the market for £3.5m
A five-bedroom Victorian terraced house in Fulham recently retrofitted to be more energy saving is on the market for £3.5 million.
The current owners undertook a deep retrofit with design by Hudson Architects that utilised Passivhaus technology to bring down its energy consumption.
Previously leaking precious heat, the three-storey house on Cloncurry Street is now airtight and insulated to a very high degree.

Retrofitting a home to be more energy efficient can save thousands of pounds a year on energy bills, and in this instance all the hard work has been done for the house’s new owner to enjoy.
Air filtering and a heat recovery system have both been installed, along with under floor heating that can be enjoyed guilt free.

Period details have been preserved and complimented with herringbone wood flooring in the front of the house and bespoke joinery in all of the bedrooms.

Special thermally broken Crittal doors, where the metal frame is insulated to prevent heat loss, open onto a 37 foot back garden.
“It’s not often that we see retrofitted homes come onto the market here in Fulham,” said Emma Stead, head of Savills Fulham.
“I expect there to be a good level of interest among families wanting to reap the benefits of a more eco-conscious home and this desirable location.”

The UK currently has some of the leakiest housing stock in Western Europe. There are currently 29 million drafty homes that the UK Green Building Council (UKGBC) reports need to be retrofitted to be more energy efficient.
“Britain is the poor man of Europe when it comes to energy insulation and clean heat,” said the Government’s former net zero tsar Chris Skidmore.

The house on an excellent example of how a home doesn’t have to be a new build to be energy efficient. Period properties and historic homes are prime candidates for an eco retrofit – and it can even become a selling point.
