Great British Bake Off interrupted once again by Channel 4 problems

© Channel 4 Channel 4 faced more technical issues during Great British Bake Off tonight, after the broadcaster went down at the weekend.

Great British Bake Off 2021 aired its second episode tonight (September 28), but Channel 4 was having a harder time than the contestants.

The broadcaster has been dealing with technical difficulties since the weekend, fielding complaints during First Dates yesterday (September 27) and Great British Bake Off this evening.

There were also issues during the GBBO premiere last week.

Viewers have been reporting issues with the sound, primarily on the All 4 website and smart TV app. The voiceovers have been distorted while some other sounds have been louder than usual.

There have also been ongoing issues with the subtitles not working, both online and on the TV channel.

Yesterday, Channel 4 representatives told Digital Spy: “Following the incident at the weekend, All 4 is still experiencing some problems and we’re working hard to fix it.”

Channel 4 addressed the issues for the second time this week on its Twitter account, telling viewers: “Sorry for the ongoing disruption – we’ll let you know here as and when we have updates.”

Sadly we’re still experiencing some tech issues which means some viewers may have problems watching our channels or access services. Sorry for the ongoing disruption – we’ll let you know here as and when we have updates.

There have been reports of evacuations at a TV operations centre after a fire broke out. It is thought that “fire suppressant” measures affected equipment.

Red Bee Media, a media management and access services provider, said in a statement: “We confirm that all staff at our Broadcast Centre in West London were safely evacuated following activation of the fire suppression systems.

“As a result of this incident and the automatic safety measures set in motion at the time, several services originating from the Broadcast Centre have been disrupted.

“London Fire Brigade attended the scene, and once they had determined that the building is safe, people were allowed to return to the building.

“We are continuing to work to restore all services and remedy any issues caused by this incident.”

Bake Off fans flooded to Twitter to air their frustration about the ongoing audio problems.

Thing is with the sound, the voiceovers are quiet but I can hear Prue eat like a monster #gbbo pic.twitter.com/AmrxNdMQmr

Was noel narrating this episode whilst trapped inside a box? #GBBO pic.twitter.com/Dxq1ULvpNZ

— Paul Gibbons (@funkygibbons) September 28, 2021

#GBBO glad to see other people think the sound is all over the place tonight. I wasn’t sure if it was me or Noel was doing the voiceover from the bottom of a biscuit barrel

— Nicola Sharp (@NSharp3) September 28, 2021

Is it me or is @Channel4 #GBBO sound really weird this week. Main sound louder and voiceover is quieter and different tone. Very off putting

— Derek Scott (@DegsyScott) September 28, 2021

Omg the audio #GBBO is all over the place tonight, so glad it’s not just ours

The issues with the voiceovers have meant fans have missed the introductions to the bakers, the rankings for the technical challenge, and some of Noel Fielding’s signature wise cracks.

Many viewers have expressed more concern for the lack of subtitles on Channel 4 shows since the weekend, with many deaf and hard of hearing people speaking out about the accessibility issues it has caused.

Can someone at Channel 4 put 50p in the subtitle meter, please? #GBBO

— Mark (@wils_2k) September 28, 2021

Still no subtitles 😥 Its @GBBOUK tonight as well, this will really spoil my ability to enjoy the programme if there is no subtitles. I am hearing impaired.

— Amanda C (@Ajaney101) September 28, 2021

An awful lot of us are.

They should ask @RNID exactly how many so they can see how big a chunk of the audience could go missing.

— Heed Lass (@heed_lass) September 28, 2021

SUBTITLES are a major problem. Maybe @Ofcom can get you to get this sorted as soon as. You are failing in your obligations under the Equality Act and the Broadcasting Act. Come on it has been three days now.

— Brian Winter (@brianwinteruk) September 28, 2021

Hopefully they can also look into why all4 is not showing most of the channels at all….NO picture, sound, OR subtitles! Some of us disabled people really depend on online tv watching. @Ofcom

— Charlotte’s Web (@cwebbeauty) September 28, 2021

Pleeeease sort out the bloody subtitles 🦻 WE CANT HEAR!!
