The case folders of several police officers who are under investigation for administrative cases were reported missing, the National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) said on Friday.

“When I came here nawawala ‘yung mga folder, worse nawawala,” said NCRPO Chief Police Major General Melencio Nartatez Jr. in Jun Veneracion’s report on “24 Oras”.

(When I came here, some of the folders were missing.)

“Second folder na na-resolve, hindi na implement, meaning nandoon lang sa baba,” he said.

(Other folders were for resolved but unimplemented cases.)

Nartatez said the NCRPO was taking measures to avoid a repeat of the situation.

They are also investigating the incident including the persons involved and possible connivance of police personnel.

“Hindi lang nawawala, nadi-delay or tinutulugan. Imbes na for dismissal siya is maging suspension lang in cahoots and/or connivance with the drafter ng isang resolution and or nag conduct ng summary dismissal proceedings,” said Nartatez Jr.

(There may be connivance between police personnel. We saw that some cases were downgraded from dismissal to suspension. This may be due to the resolution drafter or the conductor of summary dismissal proceedings being in cahoots with them.)

“Kung ang internal cleansing, we will weed out these scalawags. About 5% yan and that 5% kakaunti lang sila, uubusin natin sila,” he added.

(We will weed out these scalawags. They were about 5%, that’s a low number.)

Under Nartatez’s leadership. at least 300 police officers were relieved from their posts amid the ongoing internal cleansing.

Meanwhile, the Philippine National Police said the Philippines was ranked the third safest country in Southeast Asia under the 2023 Global Law and Order Report by Analytics and Advisory firm “Gallup.”

“All we have to do is to continue doing things that we are doing and intensifying it,” said PNP Chief Police General Benjamin Acorda Jr. — Sundy Locus/DVM, GMA Integrated News
