Google is changing its name
But to what? And what does this mean for all our googling?
Google Inc is a corporate giant that owns many of the big online entertainment and research companies, including YouTube and, of course, the Google search engine.
But, as is often the case in the world of business, it’s time for a shake-up as the company has announced a restructure.
Possibly the biggest change will be to its name. It will no longer be called Google Inc and instead be called Alphabet Inc.
This is part of the company’s aim to separate its web divisions from its research and investment divisions.
But, fear not, as the well-known search engine will keep its name so we can all continue to Google things, be Googlers and live in the Googlesphere.
CEO of Alphabet, Larry Page, wrote in a blog post that the restructure will make the company ‘cleaner and more accountable’.
And, seeing as shares in Google rose by 5.8% after the name change was announced, they are obviously getting things right.
