Google down with thousands of users unable to access search engine as outage hits
There have been thousands of reports of Google being down in The United States
Google services experienced widespread disruption, affecting thousands of Americans who were unable to access the search engine. The issue came to light when users began reporting a surge in difficulties accessing Google.
According to the website Downdetector, which tracks internet service outages, there was a sharp increase in reports of Google’s unavailability about 30 minutes before they received the data. By 10:50 am ET, the site had received 1,221 reports highlighting problems with the search engine.
Trying to enter Google subsequently resulted in a 502 error code for many users, a temporary glitch offering no details about what might be causing the problem, reports the Express US. The error message read: “502. That’s an error. The server encountered a temporary error and could not complete your request. Please try again in 30 seconds. That’s all we know.”
Downdetector data specified New York, Denver, and Seattle as cities majorly impacted by the outage. Not only was the search engine itself affected, but consumers also reported problems with Google Maps, Classroom, Earth, among others.
64 percent of complaints centered around Google’s search engine, whereas roughly 30 percent pertained to the website, and a mere 7% concerned Google Drive. A user on Downdetector stated, “google search giving server error on and off.”
Access to Google Maps became a challenge for about 100 American users who reported issues. Users have been flocking to social media to voice their frustrations with the service disruption. @GFSnell_III posted on platform X: “When Google goes down it feels very apocalyptic.”
@formal_coder also took to the site, commenting: “Google down people,” and shared a snapshot of the 502 error message. @nonetru chimed in with: “first time seeing Google search down”.
