Gobierno: Hay competencia desleal de las plataformas digitales hacia los medios tradicionales

En el marco de la 31ª Conferencia del Día Mundial de Libertad de Prensa 2024, que este año tiene lugar en Chile, el Gobierno admitió su preocupación por la desigualdad de condiciones que enfrentan los medios tradicionales frente a las grandes compañías de internet, como las redes sociales.

En un punto de prensa, en el Centro Cultural Gabriel Mistral, donde se desarrolla el foro de la Unesco, la ministra vocera, Camila Vallejo, afirmó que “hoy día no existe igualdad” en ese respecto.

“Las plataformas digitales son una actividad comercial muy grande, que tienen dueños, que no tienen fronteras y que no se someten a las mismas regulaciones que sí se somete la prensa tradicional en cada uno de los países. Y eso genera una desigual competencia”, comparó.

“Y por lo tanto es algo que hemos ido recogiendo, que hemos estado tomando notas, hemos tenido varias reuniones sobre eso porque compartimos totalmente que, así como para enfrentar el fenómeno de la desinformación, tenemos que resguardar y proteger aún más a los periodistas y el ejercicio de la libertad de prensa que se da a través de los medios, y eso pasa también porque no tengan esta desigualdad frente a lo que son las plataformas digitales o las redes sociales”, expuso.

La Segegob ha sostenido reuniones con representantes de los medios, pero aún sin anuncios sobre medidas concretas.

La Asociación Internacional de Radiodifusión (AIR) planteó en la víspera en Cooperativa la necesidad de que las grandes plataformas web, como los gigantes Meta (matriz de Facebook, Instagram y WhatsApp) y Google, sean reguladas en cuanto al contenido periodístico que distribuyen y, dentro de estas reglas, remuneren a los medios de comunicación que lo generan.

En 2021, Australia se transformó en el primer país del mundo en aprobar una ley para que Google y Facebook (Meta) paguen a los medios locales por la publicación de sus contenidos periodísticos.
