‘Global unity’ needed to bring social media platforms ‘to heel’
DPG Advisory Solutions Founder David Gazard says a “global unity” is required to bring various social media platforms “to heel”.
“I think governments everywhere are struggling with the way to regulate some of the larger global digital platforms,” Mr Gazard told Sky News Australia.
“The platforms themselves are thumbing their nose at individual jurisdictions’ regulatory attempts.
“When the previous government had Mathias Cormann elected to the OECD position he’s in at the moment, one of the things that other Western democracies were really keen on learning was how the Australian government had done the mandatory media code because they’re all wrestling with the same questions themselves.

“A global unity has to be formed here where there are laws and regulations and taxes applied to various platforms that mean they are brought to heel.”
