Gjerdrum: 8-year-old girl dies after getting hit by a car in the schoolyard

Gjerdrum: 8-year-old girl dies after getting hit by a car in the schoolyard

An eight-year-old girl died at Ullevål hospital after getting hit by a car in the schoolyard of Gjerdrum primary school on Wednesday night.

The traffic accident occurred while the car was reversing. According to the police, the girl was dragged several meters under the car before it stopped. Several people on the scene helped to raise the car so she could be released from under the car.

The Eastern Police District announced on Twitter on Thursday night that the young girl died from the injuries at the hospital.

According to the newspaper Aftenposten, the girl was eight years old.

The driver was a relative

The driver of the car was a close relative of the girl. The person in question has been charged and has had the driver’s license confiscated.

“The person in question is taken care of by health personnel. There were several people present when this happened, so there are many who are strongly affected by this incident,” operations manager Terje Skaftnes told the newspaper Romerikes Blad.

“The accident appears to be a tragedy,” he said.

An autopsy of the deceased girl has been requested, and the case will be investigated further, the operations manager stated.

Police are asking witnesses to get in touch

“We want to get in touch with everyone who was at the scene,” the Eastern Police District wrote on Twitter on Thursday morning.

Mayor Anders Østensen in Gjerdrum told Norwegian Broadcasting (NRK) that a crisis team from the Municipality would assist relatives and those affected.

“We are completely appalled by the tragic accident,” he said.

The police responded to the report at 8:15 PM on Wednesday.
