Giants injury report: Who will (and won’t) play in meaningless New Year’s Eve game vs. Rams?
New York Giants head coach Brian Daboll has struggled in 2023.
The Giants on Friday released their final injury report for Sunday’s meaningless New Year’s Eve home game against the Rams.
Here it is:
Doubtful: TE Lawrence Cager (groin)
Questionable: CB Deonte Banks (shoulder), WR Wan’Dale Robinson (quad)
The Giants have lost two straight games and are 5-10, after a three-game winning streak boosted them from 2-8 to 5-8 and had them dreaming of an improbable playoff berth.
They were eliminated from playoff contention with their Christmas loss in Philadelphia. So they’re just playing out the string in these final two games (both at home) against the Rams and Eagles.
The Giants this season will miss the playoffs for the 10th time in 12 years since their most recent Super Bowl championship, coming out of the 2011 season. They have won just one playoff game since then.
They reached the playoffs last season — under rookie head coach Brian Daboll — and won a wild-card game in Minnesota, before getting pounded by the Eagles in the divisional round.
But things have gone quite differently this season for Daboll, the 2022 NFL Coach of the Year.
And now, he faces a surging Rams team that is 8-7 and has won five of its past six games, including two straight. The Rams will clinch a playoff berth Sunday if they win and Seattle loses to Pittsburgh — or if the Rams win and the Packers tie the Vikings.
Meanwhile, Giants fans are just thinking about 2024 NFL Draft position. The Giants entered Week 17 fifth in the draft order.
