The IPL 2024 auction is just under a month away as the action gets underway on Dubai on November 10. he deadline for the IPL teams to announce the list of players retained and released as the trade window closes on November 26 (Sunday). There have been several rumours regarding which players the 10 franchises will release. Rumours were rife that Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) will release their iconic all-rounder Andre Russell ahead of the auction. But now, reportedly, it looks like the two-time IPL champions will keep hold of Russell after all, and will release three-star pacers.
According to a report by Cricbuzz, Kolkata Knight Riders are set to release Shardul Thakur ahead of the IPL 2023 4 auction. Shardul was traded in from Delhi Capitals before the IPL 2023 auction at a price of Rs 10 crore. He played 11 games and took just 7 wickets. With the bat too he scored just 168 runs
In addition to Shardul, KKR are also looking to release the Kiwi pace duo of Tim Southee and Lockie Ferguson. Ferguson was traded in from Gujarat Titans ahead of the IPL 2023 auction. He played just 3 games and took 1 wicket going at an economy rate of more than 12. Tim Southee too was very expensive in the 2 games he played, giving away runs at an economy of more than 13 runs per over.
KKR saw a major overhaul in their backroom staff, as their two-time IPL winning captain Gautam Gambhir returns to the franchise as team mentor, thus leaving his stint at Lucknow Super Giants.
The Cricbuzz report also states that Punjab Kings are looking to release Sam Curran, who was the highest-paid player in IPL auction history, while Sunrisers Hyderabad are looking to release Harry Brook. Chennai Super Kings have already confirmed that Ben Stokes will miss IPL 2024 due to workload and injury management.
The report also states that the IPL 2024 is likely to begin in the middle of March after the India vs England series ends on March 11.
