Riyan Parag is finally living up to his reputation in the Indian Premier League (IPL) this season as the Rajasthan Royals batsman is reaping benefits of replicating the thought process he has while playing domestic cricket for Assam.

With three half-centuries and and strike rate of 161.42, Parag has so far scored 318 runs in seven matches to be number three on the list of batsmen with most runs so far in IPL 2024.

“I am trying to keep it as simple as possible,” said Parag talking to Star Sports. “Earlier I used to think a lot if I was not able to score or not perform according to my own expectations. I analysed that when I go through such phases in domestic cricket, I don’t think that much about it. So I thought why not replicate the same here (in the IPL).”

The 22-year-old right-handed batsman, who also bowls useful leg-spin, said getting to bat at his favourite number-four position has also helped his confidence.

“I am getting to bat at No. 4. That’s my favourite position and also my forte. So that has helped a little,” he said.

“Khud pe thoda belief rakh raha hu ki koi bhi situation ho, koi bhi bowler ho, kar dunga and hopefully woh thoda thoda show ho raha hai (I am keeping belief in myself that whatever the situation, whoever the bowler, I will do it; and that’s showing up in bits).

Ahead of Parag in the list of top run-getters in this IPL are Sunrisers Hyderabad’s Travis Head at number two with 324 runs and Royal Challengers Bengaluru icon Virat Kohli at number on with 379 runs.

Rajasthan Royals will take on Mumbai Indians in their next match on April 22.
