Georgia 2025 QB commitment Ryan Montgomery: 3 things to know

Georgia football continues to win on the recruiting trail as well as it does on the field, with the Bulldogs adding four-star quarterback commitment Ryan Montgomery from Findlay, Ohio on April 17.

Montgomery ranks as the No. 14 overall quarterback in the class and 169th nationally, according to the 247Sports Composite. He’s also listed at eight-best prospect in Ohio.

He’s expected to transition well to an SEC environment after a record-breaking high school career in which he impressed scouts and analysts from both a tangibles and an intangibles perspective.

The 6-foot-3, 215-pounder seems to have just about everything to be desired from a quarterback in the modern era between his frame, arm strength, ability to manage the game from the pocket, speed and improvisation ability that has shown up in his high school tape.

Here’s a few things to know about Montgomery, who could become a significant part of the Georgia offense in time:

1. Montgomery broke Ben Roethlisberger’s record at his high school.

Montgomery has had an accomplished high school career, breaking the records of notable athletes like former Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger.

It was during the 2023 season that Montgomery broke Roethlisberger’s single-game yardage record from 2000, as he passed for 491 yards and 6 touchdowns in a victory over Southview.

2. Montgomery selected the Bulldogs over a host of prestigious programs, including SEC competitors.

Montgomery was the first quarterback to join Georgia’s 2025 recruiting class, and the Bulldogs landed him over multiple well-known programs. Those included South Carolina and Florida, who made their way into Montgomery’s final cut.

“Georgia is the new standard in college football. They are back-to-back national champions and that speaks for itself,” Montgomery said in an interview last year after he had narrowed down his choices.

I have a really good relationship with Coach Mike Bobo and Coach Kirby Smart. They have been in contact with me for a while and every time I am at Georgia, I love it even more. The development there is second to none and one thing that stood out to me in the spring, even though they have won two championships in a row, they practice like they finished .500 last season.”

3. Montgomery was a finalist for Ohio’s Mr. Football last year.

Montgomery had a stellar 2023 season in which he completed 228 of his 333 passing attempts for 3,018 yards with 35 touchdowns and 5 interceptions en route to becoming one of eight finalists for Ohio’s “Mr. Football” award.

The honor is presented annually to the best high school football player in the state of Ohio.

Montgomery, who ranked as the No. 9 prospect in the nation according to 247Sports that season, was also key to guiding the Findlay Trojans to a piece in the Northern Lakes League title.
