phillies star says team anthem won't return

The past two years for the Philadelphia Phillies have been magical.

They came out of nowhere to make it to the World Series in 2022 and roared back after a tough start to make another NLCS appearance in 2023.

Both of these runs were highlighted by eliminating their heated rival Atlanta Braves after they looked unstoppable for much of the regular season.

The Phillies are in “win now” mode and are looking to take home their first championship since 2008.

However, it seems like they will be embarking on that journey this year without something that has become the team’s anthem of sorts.

According to Bryson Stott in an interview with John Clark of NBC Philadelphia, the infamous song “Dancing on My Own” likely won’t be returning for the 2024 season.

“I don’t think so. We did say that last year but we did stink at the beginning. We kept saying second place is better than last place, what we were in,” the burgeoning star said.

Like Stott mentioned, Philadelphia had already planned to retire the song last year until desperate measures forced them to go back to the beloved anthem.

The Phillies are hoping to get off to a much better start this season.

A healthy Bryce Harper, non-slumping Trea Turner, and an outfield that should be improved offensively and defensively, should help them achieve that goal.

Of course, Stott isn’t the only one who will decide what music is played.

“If we find something new that is just as catchy, I think we’ll change it but we’ll see what our DJ has to say about that,” the second baseman said.

The DJ he’s referring to is backup catcher Garrett Stubbs who has been given that role inside the clubhouse.

Stubbs is feeling a bit of pressure to find something that can connect with fans as much as “Dancing on My Own” has done for the past two seasons.

“… I hope that eventually we just do find a new song that gives us a good vibe and a new good energy that people can connect with,” he said in an interview with billboard.

What that song might be is unknown as of now, but it definitely feels like the team’s anthem from 2022 and 2023 will not be back.
