Gelingt Chieffo Ähnliches wie einst Seoane?

U21-Trainer Sandro Chieffo führt die gebeutelte Mannschaft des FC Luzern am Sonntag im Heimspiel gegen Basel erstmals als Interimstrainer an. Es werden Erinnerungen an den Winter 2017/18 wach.

Im Herbst 2017 kam der FCL unter Cheftrainer Markus Babbel nicht mehr voran. Luzern ging als Vorletzter in die Winterpause, mit drei Punkten Reserve auf Sion. Es drohte der Abstieg nach zwölf Saisons im Oberhaus. Die Trennung war unvermeidlich, zumal sich Babbel in den letzten Tagen seiner dreieinhalbjährigen Amtszeit mit Vorstand und Sponsoren verkracht hatte.

Am 5. Januar 2018 gab der FCL bekannt: Babbel ist abgesetzt, der U21-Trainer Gerardo Seoane übernimmt auf den Rückrundenstart hin interimistisch. Noch vor den ersten Ernstkämpfen stattete der Vorstand Seoane mit einem Cheftrainer-Vertrag aus. Es sollte sich lohnen. Luzern spielte unter Seoane seine beste Rückrunde in der Super League, obwohl das erste (verlorene) Spiel im Dezember noch unter Babbel stattgefunden hatte. Der FCL war zuletzt Dritter und spielte in der Europa-League-Qualifikation.

Aus der Luzerner Not ging ein hochangesehener und erfolgreicher Trainer hervor. Gerardo Seoane, dreifacher Meistertrainer mit YB, heute in Leverkusen Cheftrainer eines der besten Klubs in der Bundesliga.

Wie einst Seoane leitete zuletzt auch Sandro Chieffo Luzerns U21 in der Erstliga-Gruppe 2. Wird sich die Erfolgsgeschichte wiederholen? Der 42-jährige Chieffo ist kein Luzerner wie Seoane. Er ist ein Italo-Zürcher, aufgewachsen im Kreis 4, Vater von vier Kindern, heute in Oerlikon wohnend. Bringt er die angeschlagene Luzerner Mannschaft in vier Meisterschaftsspielen bis zur Winterpause spürbar voran, könnte er nach Mattia Croci-Torti (Lugano) in diesem Herbst der zweite Interimstrainer der Liga werden, der einen definitiven und längerfristigen Vertrag bekommt.

Günstiger Zeitpunkt

Im FCL hatte man zuletzt noch gehofft, dass Fabio Celestini die zweiwöchige Länderspielpause würde nutzen können, um eine markante Verbesserung zu erzielen. Aber das Gegenteil war der Fall. Bei der 1:3-Niederlage in Lugano spielte die Mannschaft so schwach wie kaum je vorher in dieser Saison. Die Absetzung des Waadtländers war unumgänglich. Chieffo beginnt also zu einem Zeitpunkt, in dem es kaum noch schlechter werden kann.

Sandro Chieffo kann nicht zaubern, das konnte Gerardo Seoane auch nicht. In einem Interview mit der “Luzerner Zeitung” nennt Chieffo lauter logisch tönende Dinge, mit denen er die Arbeit mit den Spielern des Cupsiegers beginnen will: “Ich will meine Spieler stark reden. Sie sollen mit Freude ins Training kommen und mit einem Lachen heimgehen”. Und weiter: “Ich will die Spieler emotional abholen, sie sollen sich gut und wohl fühlen. Tun sie das, dann kann ich sie auch mal über den Platz jagen. Es bringt nichts, wenn ich das Team von oben herab dirigiere. Es gilt jetzt vor allem, die Blockaden bei den Spielern zu lösen.” Ob ihm dies gelingt und ob er ein zweiter Seoane werden kann, wird man bald wissen.

Die Super-League-Spiele vom Sonntag im Überblick:

Zürich – Young Boys (0:4). – Sonntag, 14.15 Uhr. – SR Bieri. – Absenzen: Krasniqi (gesperrt), Leitner und Buschman (beide verletzt); Von Ballmoos, Nsame, Fassnacht, Zesiger, Camara, Monteiro und Petignat (alle verletzt). – Statistik: Der Erste empfängt den nach Verlustpunkten punktgleichen Vierten. Wie, wenn nicht als euphorisierter Leader, sollen die Zürcher den Fluch brechen, der seit langem über ihren Meisterschaftsspielen gegen die Young Boys liegt. Die Zürcher bezwangen die Berner letztmals im August 2014. Seither holten sie aus 24 Partien nur gerade vier Punkte durch vier Unentschieden. Die letzten elf Duelle verloren sie allesamt, und zwar mit dem sagenhaften Torverhältnis von 5:35.

Lausanne-Sport – Servette (1:1). – Sonntag, 16.30 Uhr. – SR San. – Absenzen: Turkes, Geissmann und Kapo (alle verletzt); Cespedes, Fofana und Deana (alle verletzt). – Fraglich: Grippo; – . – Statistik: Quasi rechtzeitig vor dem Léman-Derby beendeten beide Mannschaften am letzten Wochenende Negativserien mit Siegen. Lausanne-Sport gewann erstmals auswärts (in St. Gallen). Servette hatte vor dem 3:2 gegen die Grasshoppers fünfmal nacheinander verloren. Die Waadtländer dominierten die Derby seit ihrem Wiederaufstieg im Sommer 2020 eindeutig: Aus den fünf Duellen holten sie elf Punkte, die Genfer nur zwei.

Luzern – Basel (1:1). – Sonntag, 16.30 Uhr. – SR Schärer. – Absenzen: Schulz, Ndiaye (beide gesperrt), Alabi, Campo und Monney (alle verletzt); Esposito, Padula und Tushi (alle verletzt). – Fraglich: Schürpf, Burch und Farkas; – . – Statistik: Wie wird sich die Absetzung von Cheftrainer Fabio Celestini beim FC Luzern auswirken? Nach den Mut machenden ersten Saisonsieg gegen St. Gallen holte das Schlusslicht aus drei Spielen nur einen Punkt. Der nach Verlustpunkten knapp führende FC Basel bezog just vor der Länderspielpause die erste Saisonniederlage in der Meisterschaft. In Duellen mit Basel siegten die Innerschweizer seit März 2018 nur dreimal, allerdings jedes Mal zuhause.
