GC schlägt Reipas Lahti 8:0 und sorgt für den höchsten Schweizer Europacup-Sieg

© KEYSTONE GC kantert Lahti im Hardturm mit 8:0 nieder. 29. September 1971: GC müht sich im Meistercup-Hinspiel auf dem Sandplatz von Reipas Lahti – trotz kurzfristig gekauften Not-Schuhen – zu einem mageren 1:1. Zwei Wochen später im Rückspiel feiern die Zürcher dann einen überragenden Sieg.

Die Auslosung meint es im Sommer 1971 gut mit den Grasshoppers. Der Schweizer Meister trifft in der ersten Runde des Meistercups (Vorgänger der Champions League) auf das unbekannte Reipas Lahden, später umbenannt in Reipas Lahti.

Das Hinspiel geht nicht ohne Misstöne über die Bühne. In Lahti angekommen, informieren die Finnen den Schweizer Vertreter, dass die Partie nicht auf Rasen, sondern auf einem Sandplatz stattfinden wird. Nur dieser habe eine Flutlichtanlage. GC will nur unter Protest spielen und die Spieler müssen sich am Tag vor der Partie noch schnell passendes Schuhwerk kaufen.

Das Spiel endet 1:1. GC zeigt eine starke erste Halbzeit, geht im zweiten Durchgang in der 63. Minute durch den Deutschen Rainer Ohlhauser 1:0 in Führung, kassiert in der 75. Minute allerdings den Ausgleich und muss sich am Ende bei Goalie René Deck bedanken, dass dieser die Niederlage verhindert. 7:1 für Reipas lautet das Eckball-Verhältnis.

«Ein desorientiertes finnisches Meisterteam»

Trotzdem ist GC für das Rückspiel im Hardturm der grosse Favorit. Es finden sich allerdings nur 5200 Fans im Stadion ein, was die «NZZ» am nächsten Tag als «Zuschauerzahl, die derjenigen eines besseren Erstligatreffens entspricht» beschreibt. Heute wäre GC froh, würden bei jedem Spiel 5000 Seelen Eintritt bezahlen. Aber das ist ein anderes Thema.

Die 5200 Hartgesottenen bereuen ihr Kommen nicht. Schon in der 1. Minute schiebt Kudi Müller einen Querpass von Ruedi Schneeberger über die Linie. Bis zur Pause ist die Partie nach Toren von Alfred Gröbli, erneut Müller und Schneeberger mit 4:0 entschieden. Die «NZZ» sieht dabei einen «schwachen Gegner» in den ersten 45 Minuten.

Doch es kommt noch besser. Aus den schwachen Gästen wird «in der zweiten Halbzeit ein desorientiertes finnisches Meisterteam». GC schenkt der «unbeweglichen und offensichtlich überforderten Gästedeckung» (die NZZ schreibt dabei «überfordert» gar kursiv) in der zweiten Halbzeit vier weitere Tore ein. Denn «statt allzu augenfällig im Spargang, zeigt GC gefälligen Angriffsfussball».

Mit Ausnahme des Penaltytors im Nachschuss von Peter Meier sind alle Treffer sauber herausgespielt. Beim 6:0 schliesst Müller eine herrliche Passfolge von Gröbli und Schneeberger per Direktabnahme ab, das 8:0 erzielt Müller gar per Hechtkopfball.

Der Wunsch von einem stärkeren Gegner

Trainer René Hüssy kann mit der Darbietung mehr als zufrieden sein. Nie zuvor und bisher auch nie danach, siegt ein Schweizer Team auf internationalem Parkett höher. Weil Servette (gegen Liverpool), Basel (gegen Real Madrid) und Lugano (gegen Legia Warschau) in der ersten Runde allesamt scheitern, stehen die Hoppers als einziger Schweizer Vertreter in der 2. Runde (damals Achtelfinals).

Der «NZZ»-Journalist schreibt nach der Gala gegen Reipas: «Im Achtelfinal ist GC ein zugkräftigerer Gegner zu wünschen, statt dieses etwas hausbacken wirkende, jedoch beispielhaft faire Team.» Der Wunsch wird erfüllt: Arsenal ist die nächste Hürde. GC scheitert mit 0:2 im Heimspiel und 0:3 auswärts deutlich.

Keine Beleuchtung, darum keine Farbfernseh-Übertragung

Ganz ohne Nebengeräusch geht nach dem Hinspiel in Finnland allerdings auch das Rückspiel nicht über die Bühne. Die Zürcher verzichten auf eine Flutlichtanlage von 1200 Lux, womit die Farbfernseh-Übertragung der Partie nicht möglich ist. Schon damals schlagen sich die Blauweissen also mit Stadionproblemen herum.

Immerhin reicht GC am Tag vor dem Spiel einen neuen Kostenvoranschlag über 700’000 Franken für die neue Flutlichtanlage ein. Im August 1972 wird diese, endlich zeitgemässe Anlage, eingeweiht. Wieder ist Arsenal zu Gast – und siegt 2:1.

Jari Litmanen, der berühmteste Sohn von Reipas

Ein Wort noch zu Reipas Lahti: Der Verein fusionierte 1996 mit dem FC Kuusysi Lahti – gegen jenen Klub feierte Xamax in der Saison 1987/88 mit dem 5:0 seinen höchsten Europacup-Sieg der Geschichte – zum FC Lahti. Der Klub spielt heute in der höchsten finnischen Liga. Der berühmteste Fussballer des Vereins war ein gewisser Jari Litmanen. Er stiess 1977 als Sechsjähriger zum Klub und verliess diesen 1990, um seine Weltkarriere so richtig zu lancieren.
